Surat, Bombay Presidency, British India. Ahmed Hoosen Deedat, also known as Ahmed Deedat and Shaikh Ahmed Deedat, was a Muslim missionary and self-taught scholar on Islam and Quran. He was not only well-versed in Islamic studies but also Christian theology, including the Bible. His uniqueness as a missionary was his ability to draw parallels between the Bible and the Quran Deedat traveled to Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Kenya, Sweden, Australia, Denmark, and Iran during his long service to Islam. He was profoundly moved by his visit to Iran in 1982. Upon returning to South Africa, he began to encourage unity between the Sunni and Shiite factions of Islam and spoke glowingly about his encounter with Dr. Zakir Naik speaking about the full history of his interaction with Sheikh Ahmed Deedat in his life.
